The price of gold is up good today with gold prices testing their 52-week highs of the year. There is no stock market news explaining this move, but experienced gold investors know that seasonally gold tends to have its best months of the year from July to October. Today the DOW fell over 1000 points following yesterday's FOMC announcement and economic outlook from Jerome Powell that predicts more of a bounce than a massive economic recovery. Today everything is down though including gold, which has fallen about 20 points. Today the stock market is down. While there has been some strength in technology stocks recently, this week the Russell 2000 has acted weaker than the Nasdaq and S&P 500 stock market averages and has tipped over. At the same time gold has been strong. Silver appears to be lining up as many silver mining stocks have recently gone to new highs. The price of oil has crashed this week and fell so low that the futures price for WTI went negative! I see this as a sign of a demand collapse and deflation for the moment in the economy, but beyond the markets and the US economy there are also geopolitical implications in the price drop. Friday has come early this week for gold bugs as gold jumped up this morning again following the drop in oil this week that took futures for WTI to the negative in a move never seen before. This is a sign of deflation, but deflation is not causing gold to drop, but instead is helping it to go up. Mining companies are now going to see their costs go down while their revenue goes up thanks to rising metals prices. This is helping the mining stocks and GDX ETF. However, JNUG is an ETF malfunctioning now along with the USO oil ETF.David Skarica has been on top of these trends and today has been a day for gold traders to indeed celebrate. The S&P 500 stock market fell over 30% off of its peak and is now having a rally. Many people believe this rally is the start of a new bull market. I am highly skeptical even if that is a popular notion with the public now and even some commentators on CNBC.
