The Story Behind Warby Parker
23/01/2020 Duration: 29minWarby Parker was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price, while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. We’re lucky enough to have two of the founders with us in-studio as Neil Blumenthal and Dave Gilboa join us on the latest show. By circumventing traditional channels, designing glasses in-house, and engaging with customers directly, Warby Parker is able to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear at a fraction of the going price. The team believes that buying glasses should be easy and fun. It should leave you happy and good-looking, with money in your pocket. They also believe that everyone has the right to see. Almost one billion people worldwide lack access to glasses, which means that 15% of the world’s population cannot effectively learn or work. To help address this problem, Warby Parker partners with nonprofits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to som

The Infinite Game with Simon Sinek
16/01/2020 Duration: 27minHow do we win a game that has no end? Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers, only ahead and behind. The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we’re in? Our latest guest, Simon Sinek, author of The Infinite Game, offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset. On one hand, none of us can resist the fleeting thrills of a promotion earned or a tournament won, yet these rewards fade quickly. In pursuit of a Just Cause, we will commit to a vision of a future world so appealing that we will build it week after week, month after month, year after year. Although we do not know the exact form this world will take, working toward it gives our work and our life

Loserthink with Scott Adams
09/01/2020 Duration: 32minIf you've been on social media lately, or turned on your TV, you may have noticed a lot of dumb ideas floating around. Such as, “we know when history will repeat and when it won't” or “we can tell the difference between evidence and coincidences.” Wrong! So says our latest guest, Scott Adams, author of Loserthink: How Untrained Brains Are Ruining America and also the man behind the Dilbert cartoon. If we're not careful, Adams says loserthink would have us believe that addicts should be responsible for fixing the opioid epidemic, and that your relationship fell apart simply because you chewed with your mouth open. Even the smartest people can slip into loserthink's seductive grasp. This book will teach you how to spot and avoid it, and will give you scripts to respond when hollow arguments are being brandished against you, whether by well-intentioned friends, strangers on the internet, or political pundits. You'll also learn how to spot the underlying causes of loserthink, like the inability to get ego out of

When Scott hears a prominent leader and “early retiree” in the FIRE movement subculture interviewed on a podcast, he enlists his wife to abandon everything they’ve been taught about the role of money in adulthood and instead focus on pursuing financial independence. But doing so requires an about face since their current path has them spending every dime they make living the “Instagram” life in an expensive San Diego suburb, driving luxury cars, and eating at fancy restaurants. Although everything they are doing is sanctioned by their friends, traditional education, and broad society, Taylor agrees that something is wrong when it becomes clea

Year-End Money Moves for 2019
05/12/2019 Duration: 27minDecember is upon us, which means I basically have your attention for about two more weeks max. So while I have you, and as the year comes to an end, it's a perfect time to review some year-end financial planning tips. For such an occasion there's no better person than Michael Goodman from Wealthstream Advisors. And in the interest of full disclosure, not only is Michael a dear friend of mine, he's also my advisor. We discussed a variety of financial planning topics to ponder before you shut down for the holidays, including: Selling assets in your portfolio now versus waiting until next year: Losses offset gains that you have taken previously in the year; if you have more losses than gains, you can deduct up to $3,000 of losses against ordinary income. Take Required Minimum Distributions: Generally, once you turn 70 1/2, you must begin withdrawing a specific amount of money from your retirement assets (there are some exceptions). The penalty for not taking your RMD is steep at 50 percent on the shortfall! Co
