Within these verses lies the secret of life that no one sees coming — fullness of joy does not come from the pursuit and exaltation of self, but in the denial of self. When John the Baptist says “I must decrease, he must increase” he flips contemporary culture on its head…and invites us to follow him into true satisfaction.

“For God so loved the world that He gave his only son…” These words are the most well-known in the entire bible for good reason. Believe them, and the result is eternal life.

Jesus says we all must be born again. It is only through His life, death, and resurrection that we are able to enter the Kingdom of God.

Our greatest good and deepest joy come through nearness to God. When Jesus cleanses and replaces the temple, he declares himself to be the only means by which we can experience life-changing closeness to our creator.

The first miraculous sign Jesus performs in the Gospel of John is spectacular at first glance, and even more profound as one looks deeper. As hundreds of gallons of water change to wine, we discover the new way change is designed to come into our lives in the ways that matter most.

The prologue to John’s Gospel is a masterpiece. When John introduces Jesus as “The Word made flesh” he is making a declaration much larger than one would initially realize. He is changing the way humanity thinks. He is changing the course of history. And he might just be changing your life. God has equipped us with the Sword of the Spirt to stand firm in the finished work of Christ.
