Jonathan shares with us the real struggles of fully comprehending verse 28 - how ALL things work for the good of those who love God, yet our daily experiences make us wonder if this is true. We believe because God says it's true, but the things we see and experience make us question the veracity of this statement. But then in verses 29 and 30, Paul tells us how God foreknew, predestined, called, justified and glorified us! Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. Teach Us to Pray (Part II) | Matthew 6:11-15
27/09/2021 Duration: 45minPreacher: Jonathan Smith This short two week series looks into prayer - specifically, how Jesus wants us to pray. This week Pastor Jonathan looks at the last parts of the Lord's Prayer, specifically where we should pray for God's provision - for our needs, not our greeds; His protection - keeping us from temptation, trials and evil; and finally, His forgiveness. The main focus of this message is how much God has forgiven us and the cost involved. We struggle with forgiveness because it is costly - when someone hurts us, we want them to pay us back for the hurt. When we forgive, we release the cost - we won't be compensated, it is costly! It is not until we fully recognise the cost to God, the unfathomable cost to Him, that we we can truly appreciate why we should behave the same towards others who have hurt us. Teach Us to Pray (Part I) | Matthew 6:7-10
20/09/2021 Duration: 37minPreacher: Jonathan Smith This short two week series looks into prayer - specifically, how Jesus wants us to pray. He wants us to come to God as His children. We are not to pray to God like He's some ambivalent pantheon who we try to manipulate for our own purpose, but we are to come to Him as His children, recognising that we are in relationship with Him. In this regard we are to pray for His Glory, His Kingdom and His will on Earth as it is in Heaven. The remarkable thing is when we pray for his glory then his kingdom comes and his will is done; when we pray for his kingdom then he is glorified and his will is done; and finally, when we pray for his will, he is glorified and his kingdom comes! Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Farewell From Paul (& Phil) | 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; 19-28
13/09/2021 Duration: 34minPreacher: Phil Pike As Phil & Petra prepare to leave Red Door church for a move interstate, Phil finishes up our series in 1 Thessalonians. In his letter, Paul finishes up by telling the Thessalonians to love their leaders, He also encourages them to evaluate prophecy in light of apostolic teaching, and finally he prays that God would sanctify his friends completely - in sprit, soul, and body. Phil finishes his ministry at Red Door by encouraging all of us to use our God given gifts the same way - to edify of the church and bring the glory to God's holy name. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Living The Gospel (Fluently) | 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18
06/09/2021 Duration: 40minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching from 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18. Like a foreign language we desire to speak fluently, living full of faith, love, and hope - living the gospel - doesn't happen overnight. We learn as we go. And as with learning a foreign language, there are some key principles to follow - 1. Don't give up practicing (keep reading God's Word, keep praying) and learning; 2. Get support from and give support to others - we continue to learn from others and we can also teach them; 3. Be thankful in everything - suffering can have a dulling effect on us to God's goodness and grace. The antidote is to celebrate, pray, and give thanks consistently - good and bad times - knowing that God's favour doesn't waver irrespective of our circumstances. We Belong To The Day | 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
30/08/2021 Duration: 39minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the 1 Thes 5:1 to 5:11. Paul teaches that the Day Of The Lord is coming. Both from writings in the Old Testament and Jesus's words, we see that the Day Of The Lord is destructive, but for those who are in The Lord, they will be saved from this destruction. Pastor Jonathan says that we who are in Christ are saved from this destruction but we are not to be complacent. Giving your life to Jesus is not "tick, I've got my life insurance sorted out", and now let's get on with living. We are warned not be be asleep - not to be unaware - of what is happening around us. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

The Return Of The King | 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
23/08/2021 Duration: 43minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the 1 Thes 4:13 to 4:18. At this point in time, the Thessalonian church were worried about their fellow believers who had died, thinking because they had died before the return of Jesus that they would not be raised. Paul tells them their understanding is wrong. He encourages the believers in Thessalonika that those who died in Christ will rise in Christ, and that they have hope - a hope that others do not have. Pastor Jonathan says that we too have the same hope, however, he also tells us that it is perfectly ok to grieve for people we've lost - the bible itself has many verses depicting grief - but we do not need to grieve like people without hope. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

God of Sex, Labour of Love | 1 Thessalonians 3:11-4:12
16/08/2021 Duration: 52minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the 1 Thes 3:11 to 4:12. Paul teaches that to truly live as Jesus we must live holy lives. As was common in that culture, sexual immorality was rife. This is in direct conflict to God's command on how we are to live our lives. Paul's message to the Thessalonians is equally apt for us today in our culture. On the bright side, Paul encourages the Thessalonian church to keep loving each other. By living holy lives and loving each other, God's Holy Spirit will be shown to be present in the church. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Anxious Apostle | 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13
09/08/2021 Duration: 37minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the 1 Thes 2:17 to 3:13. Paul is anxious for the people in Thessalonika because they are being persecuted and are suffering, and with suffering comes the temptation to walk away from the faith. He doesn't tell them that there will be no suffering, but rather encourages them to support and strengthen each other. This message is very applicable to us today as we face the ongoing anxiety and suffering caused by COVID. We need to support, encourage and strengthen each other and stand strong in our faith. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Welcoming The Word | 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16
02/08/2021 Duration: 45minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the second chapter, verses 13 to 15. A short reading, but it contains a lot. God's word is not only for our education about God, it is also transforming. It changes us. We grow in our faith, we love like Jesus, and we have assured hope because of God's word. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Decrease Was His Glory | 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
26/07/2021 Duration: 40minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the second chapter of this letter and emphasises to us that Paul's motive for serving the people on Thessalonica comes from wanting to glorify God. As we serve in our own churches, this should be our motivation too, although, at times, because of our nature, we sometimes serve with mixed motives - are we truly serving for God's glory, or are we serving for the praise of people around us? Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

19/07/2021 Duration: 36minPreacher: Jonathan Smith Pastor Jonathan is teaching through Paul's first letter to the church in Thessalonica. This message comes from the first chapter of this letter and emphasises to us that because of God's faithfulness and grace we can work by faith, let our love motivate our labor, and be inspired to endure because of hope in Jesus's second coming.
