The fifth episode of the UNLV Gaming Research podcast series is up, and it's a great one: Jacob Avery, our February 2009 Research Fellow, talks about his sociological research into poker, which started in an Atlantic City card room and has taken him to UNLV Special Collections' Reading Room. Avery, a graduate student in sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, has made excellent use of the collections here at UNLV, integrating them with his field notes to create a fascinating analysis of the "action" at the poker table. The latest UNLV Gaming Podcast is now up. In our fourth installment, we have a great conversation with Dr. Bill Eadington, unofficial dean of the international school of gaming studies and official director of UNR's Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming. Dr. Eadington discusses the Institute and two programs that are likely to be of wide interview: the school's new graduate certificate program and the 14th International Conference on Gambling and Risk-Taking, which is being held in Lake Tahoe this May.   Episode 3 of the UNLV Gaming podcast is up--Bill Zender discusses his career in the casino business and his book Casino--ology: The Art of Managing Casino Games.  It's a great talk from a UNLV alumnus and renowned casino expert.  It's available on the podcast page and in iTunes.
