Legends Podcast #544; Halloween (Legends of Halloween)
06/10/2021 Duration: 59minWe’re kicking off Legends of Halloween with… well, Halloween! John Carpenter’s 1978 film starring Jamie Lee Curtis ushered in the classic era of American slasher films. With the 12th movie in the franchise coming out later this month, once again starring Curtis, it’s easy to forget that the original was an independent film, made on the cheap for just over a quarter million dollars. Co-written by Debra Hill, Halloween cemented Carpenter’s status as a blockbuster director, launched the career of yogurt enthusiast Jamie Lee Curtis, and introduced the world to the unstoppable kitchen knife-wielding boogeyman Michael Myers. Legends Podcast #543; The Saint (Action Movies)
29/09/2021 Duration: 01h03minOne year after their successful reboot of Mission: Impossible, Paramount Pictures went back to the well of classic ‘60s TV action series with The Saint starring Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue. Based on the best-selling book series by Leslie Charteris, international super-thief Simon Templar has been played by nearly a dozen actors, including Vincent Price and Roger Moore, with Regé-Jean Page set to don the halo in an upcoming film. The 1997 film was a box office and home video hit, but it failed to impress critics. Now we’re saying “Halo” to The Saint. Legends Podcast #542; The Rocketeer (Comic Book Movies)
23/09/2021 Duration: 01h27minIn 1991, Walt Disney Pictures released a live-action comic book movie - decades before their Marvel films - based on the 1980s graphic novel The Rocketeer by Dave Stevens. Itself an homage to 1920s and ‘30s action serials, Disney hoped to jumpstart their own Indiana Jones-style franchise based on the high-flying adventurer. The film starred a relative unknown, Billy Campbell, in the lead role, and it also featured Jennifer Connelly as the love interest, Alan Arkin as the mentor, and two-time James Bond actor Timothy Dalton as the bad guy. Although director Joe Johnston, who later returned to comic book period action movies two decades later with Captain America: The First Avenger, brought a surprisingly comic-accurate Rocketeer to the big screen, the film was not a major hit and Disney scrapped plans for a sequel. But with a reboot from Disney+ on the way, we’re strapping on our jetpacks and taking to the skies over Hollywoodland! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes unde

Legends Podcast #540; Fast Five (Aug-Heist)
08/09/2021 Duration: 01h05minThe “Fast and Furious” franchise was firing on all cylinders in 2011 when it released its fifth installment. Far from the Point Break redux of ten years before, the films had evolved from their street race-centric origins through a series of side-quels, only really getting around to a proper follow-up to the first film by the fourth overall outing. In the hands of director Justin Lin, the series truly found its footing by ignoring the laws of physics and focusing on what is most important: family. This Rio-set heist flick reset the series, united the casts of multiple F&F movies, and threw The Rock into the mix for good measure. Now we’re extending AugHeist into September with our fifth movie and that makes it Fast Five! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Legends Podcast #539; Logan Lucky (Aug-Heist)
01/09/2021 Duration: 01h15minThis week, we’re doubling down on Soderbergh with his “Ocean’s 7-Eleven” movie from 2017. Starring Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as two possibly-cursed brothers who plan to rob a NASCAR race, this down-and-dirty heist flick rounds out its cast with a Southern-drawl sporting Daniel Craig, two years ahead of his turn as the detective in Knives Out. While the film didn’t exactly make off with the box office, it did convince Soderbergh to keep making movies after he announced his retirement from directing in 2013. Now we’re finishing out the month with the charmingly scruffy Logan Lucky. For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. 25/08/2021 Duration: 01h21minThis week, we’re betting on the 2001 remake of the 1960 Rat Pack classic Ocean’s 11 to deliver some solid Aug-Heist fun. Directed by Stephen Soderbergh and starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts and more, the film scored at the box office and won two sequels and a spin-off. Legends Podcast #537; Mission: Impossible (Aug-Heist)
18/08/2021 Duration: 01h29minThis week, we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie reboot of the classic television series Mission: Impossible. Starring Tom Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt of the Impossible Mission Force, this Brian De Palma-directed film scored the third-biggest box office haul of 1996. Legends Podcast #536; Locked Down (Aug-Heist)
04/08/2021 Duration: 01h01minThis week, we’re going back to the early days of the Coronavirus lockdown, which posed an interesting problem to filmmakers. How do you make a movie during a deadly pandemic when everyone is supposed to stay at home? While many productions were put on hold, writer Steven Knight took a dare and wrote the script, and director Doug Liman shot it in 18 days with an all-star cast. The result was Locked Down, a relationship comedy-drama starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofer, which also happens to be about stealing a very expensive diamond. The film was released direct to HBO Max this past January, and now we’re taking the opportunity that fate has given us and unlocking Aug-Heist 2021! Legends Podcast #535; Snakes on a Plane (Action Movies)
28/07/2021 Duration: 01h03minFifteen years ago, a would-be summer blockbuster became an early example of a viral internet hit after the film’s title was announced. Starring the already meme-worthy actor Samuel L. Jackson as an FBI agent tasked with protecting a witness on a flight from Hawaii to LAX, only to find the flight besieged by venomous serpents, the film’s online notoriety did not translate to box office success I.R.L. Nevertheless, the film opened the floodgates for a torrent of high-concept action flicks of varying degrees of quality - Sharknado, anyone? We’re putting up our seats and tray tables, dosing ourselves with antivenom, and watching Snakes on a Plane! Legends Podcast #534; The Mummy Returns (Action Movies)
21/07/2021 Duration: 01h06minThe 2001 sequel to 1999’s hit monster flick The Mummy saw director Stephen Sommers helm another Indiana Jones-inspired adventure through cursed tombs infested with creepy bugs. Joining Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, Arnold Vosloo, and the rest of the first film’s cast was a professional wrestler and untested actor known only as “The Rock.” The film was another box office hit, delivering the biggest opening weekend in two years. Though it would prove to be the last film starring the original cast, the following year The Rock starred in a spin-off prequel based on his character, The Scorpion King, earning the biggest salary ever for an actor in their first lead role and launching his movie career in earnest. Now, Beef, Wing, and Lobster are opening the Book of the Dead and bringing back The Mummy Returns for its twentieth anniversary! Legends Podcast #532; The Cannonball Run (Car Movies)
07/07/2021 Duration: 01h04minFifty years ago, automotive journalist Brock Yates and Car and Driver editor Steve Smith conceived the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, a timed race from East Coast to West Coast of America. The first “Cannonball Run” from New York City to the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach, California, was covered in a widely-read article, and the race was run four more times throughout the ‘70s. By the end of the decade, a movie was in the works, to be written by Yates and helmed by stuntdriver-turned-director Hal Needham. Two 1976 films - Cannonball and The Gumball Rally - beat Yates’ and Needham’s film to the screen, but their 1981 film - which boasted Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, and Farrah Fawcett leading a stacked cast - became the sixth highest-grossing film of the year and remains an enduring classic. Now, forty years later, we’re putting pedal to metal and checking out The Cannonball Run! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Plea

Legends Podcast #531; Twister (Action Movies)
30/06/2021 Duration: 01h02minTwenty-five years ago, Speed director Jan du Bont’s latest action movie blew into theaters. Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as a pair of estranged tornado chasers, the film was co-written by Jurassic Park author Michael Chricton and produced by Stephen Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. While the screenplay went through several rewrites from script doctors like Joss Whedon, Steve Zallian, and Jeff Nathanson, shooting was also plagued with on-set injuries, budget overruns, and outbursts from the volatile du Bont. Despite the stormy production, it became the second-highest grossing film of the year and made history as the first film to be released on DVD in the United States. Now we’re grabbing as many aluminum cans as we can find and watching the best Dodge Ram commercial ever made - Twister! Legends Podcast #530; Tread (Documentary)
25/06/2021 Duration: 01h11minOn June 4th, 2004, disgruntled Granby, Colorado, resident Marvin Heemeyer drove his secretly-built “Killdozer” through the wall of his garage and took it on a destructive rampage of vengeance against his fellow townspeople, who he believed had wronged him over the years. At the end of the day, Heemeyer had destroyed 13 buildings, including the town hall, the local newspaper’s offices, several local businesses, and the home of the former mayor, causing over $7 million worth of damage. Miraculously, no one was killed, save for Heemeyer, who took his own life inside the cab of his homemade tank. In 2020, Netflix released a documentary about Heemeyer’s life and that fateful day in Granby, and now Beef and Lobster are here to review the shocking true story of Tread! The film also featured a score by John Williams, cinematography by Douglas Slocombe, editing by Michael Kahn, and starred Harrison Ford in the title role as archaeologist/adventurer/college professor Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, Jr. While the film spawned a major franchise, it was a success in it’s own right, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year and winning five Oscars. 10/06/2021 Duration: 01h06minForty years ago, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table got the blockbuster treatment with John Boorman’s 1981 production retelling the classic tales.
