Sometimes people feel as if they're adrift in the world. They work hard, but they don't seem to get anywhere worthwhile.  A key reason that they feel this way is that they haven't spent enough time thinking about what they want from this year, and haven't set themselves any objectives.  This Sunday we will be looking at Setting Objectives as a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and motivating yourself to turn your God-given vision of this future into reality.

Trust is central to any relationship we have.  It is said that trust is something we are slow to earn, but can be quickly lost. Many live guarding their hearts because trust has been broken in the past and the thought of the hurt and pain that comes isn’t worth trusting others again.  Jesus invites us into relationship and so there is a level of trust that needs to be present. Join us Sunday as we take time to look at what it takes to trust.

Have you ever been around a household on Christmas morning with a bunch of little kids?  The excitement and anticipation is bursting at the seams as presents sit under the tree waiting to be unwrapped. The possibilities are endless as the kids hope to find the gift they have been longing for. There are many times in life that we feel like we are waiting and there isn’t the same excitement or anticipation that we see from kids on Christmas morning. Join us Sunday as we take some time to learn what it means to wait.

It doesn’t take long to notice that this world is not as it should be.  Whether we are watching the news or reflecting on our own lives, the deepest part of our soul longs for the wrongs we see to be made right. And in the midst of all the pain and heartache that we are currently experiencing, we ask Jesus, “How long?” Advent is a season of anticipation. We look to the coming of Jesus as our hope that all these things will be made right.  It’s in Him that sorrow and joy collide. As we mourn what is, we mourn with Hope that the Kingdom of God is available now and not yet!

What do you do with matters of the soul?  Is it easier to ignore the issue, to compensate or escape?  Guest speaker Doug Balzer helps us to examine God’s heart for us to overcome guilt and shame.

Ask people how they are doing and if you get a response beyond “Good” it will often include words like tired, busy, running, or I need a vacation. We often wear those descriptions almost as a badge of honour. We seem to think any other response would indicate we are lazy or unproductive. Is that the life we were created for? Always running, always worn out, always feeling like we never have quite enough? Join us this week as Pastor Mike helps us take a look at what it means to live a life filled up but not worn out.

We all want to experience the fullness of God and live out of the power of the Holy Spirit. But how do we do that?  Are some of us more in touch with the Holy Spirit? Do others have more faith to see Him move in supernatural ways?  The secret is, there is no secret.  The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in everyone who has put their faith in Christ!  But how we respond to that power is where our answer is found, and we have to look no further than the person and work of Jesus Christ.

As we begin a new series, ‘The Spirit-Filled Life,’ exploring the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, it’s helpful to understand the dynamic within the Trinity itself of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Often people get hung up on the metaphysics of how there can be one God, yet three Persons, and miss the more fundamental and important truths of why it matters to us in the first place that God exists as Father, Son and Spirit.  Pastors Jeremy & Lisa will seek to bring some further insight into why the Trinity matters to us as Believers today.    

This Sunday, we conclude our Seed Project series with the Big Day of Giving. Come and hear stories of how God richly accomplished incredible miracles through those who were obediently willing to sacrifice for others. And the benefit it brought them.

In John 12:24, Jesus said: “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.”  The Seed Project is all about our desire to see ‘a plentiful harvest of new lives’...but in order for new life to happen, Jesus’ illustration of the seed reminds us that first a death must occur.  Join us this week as Pastor Jeremy calls us to follow in the way of Jesus through laying down our lives (John 15:13) as an act of love for those around us.

Each and every one of us is shaped and impacted by the places that we come from. For some there is a great sense of national or cultural pride that they identify with. Where we come from begins to set for us a foundation that we stand upon as we enter into the world we live in. It shapes how we view and interact with the world. It has impacted us with a legacy that we are carrying forward. What about our roots as people who are choosing to follow Jesus? What is the foundation, what is the legacy we are carrying forward and where are our roots planted? Join us this Sunday as we take some time to explore our roots and the legacy we are carrying forward.

After nearly 6 years of praying, preparing, and planning, we are on the cusp of a new chapter in our building redevelopment effort – The Seed Project.  While we are excited about some of the new possibilities that will open up for us in the future, this project has never been ultimately about a building – Jesus’ focus has always been on our hearts. Come and be reminded of some of the journey Jesus has led us on and how He continues to form our hearts after His.

Often when we think of generosity, we tend to think of something tangible of material value.  Though Jesus sometimes chooses to extend generosity in this way, this pales in comparison to the extravagant generosity He gives by offering Himself.  Join us as Pastors Jeremy and Lisa conclude our series Captivated by Jesus.

Ask any average church-goer to describe the top 5 characteristics of Jesus and most will include ‘humble’ in their list.  We can quickly give mental ascent to His humility but we often don’t understand what this meant for Him in the details.  Join us this week as Pastors Jeremy & Lisa reflect on the staggering humility of the incarnation of Jesus and its implications for us.

In a world dominated by pressure to be ‘politically correct’ and where people often choose to pull away from people rather than speak to difficult relational issues, Jesus models another way to be human.  Jesus – who is the Truth – wants to set us free from our delusions so that we can enter more fully into the Kingdom of God with Him.  Pastors Jeremy and Lisa continue our series ‘Captivated by Jesus.’

To what extent do you generally think of Jesus as a person of irrepressible joy? How might we read the gospels differently – and interpret our own interaction with Jesus differently – if we truly experienced the full measure of His joy within us? Have you ever found yourself in a dire situation where, if you would have taken your own advice, you could have avoided it?  This Sunday we will be exploring how the choices leading to King Solomon’s fall may be the very choices we face every day.  How do you recover from your own poor choices?  How do we make the right choices?

No one today, if offered wisdom, would say no.  We are all looking to be wiser in our finances, relationships and everyday situations.  Everybody wants to be known as someone who makes wise choices.  But what exactly is wisdom, and how do we get more of it?  As we look at the rise of Solomon, we’ll see how the kind of wisdom we should all desire comes from God, and that although the world around can seemingly offer wisdom, Jesus is the true source of wisdom.

I think most of us would say that there are some things in our lives that we hope others would not find out about. The actions of our youthful foolishness or decisions made at a time when clear thinking wasn’t so clear. How would you respond when those decisions or actions got called out by a friend? Most of us would probably look for some place to hide.  Join us this Sunday as we look at David’s life and how he responds when his worst moments in life get called out.
