Death is a common experience. We each will face our own demise and probably have experienced the loss of a loved one. Death is our experience, but not God's. How does Life die? Humiliation is the process of degrading the worth of an individual. By words and actions, the person is belittled and mocked. To be in a position of influence for good is a great responsibility. Pilate failed that responsibility. The death of Judas was an expression of despair. He was a man consumed by greed, then guilt, then hopelessness. In today's message, Dr. John speaks of the suicide of Judas. We expect trials to be forums for justice. When the rules are followed, clear evidence given and unbiased judges oversee, we expect a fair result. We expect pain from those who are against us. That may not lessen the pain, but at least it is more understandable. That's what we expect from enemies. We don’t expect pain from our friends. The crucifixion of Jesus was not an accident where details tumble out of control. The details and timing of God's plan would be fulfilled. Too many think of faith like a driver's license. They have passed the test and answered all the questions right - and now they head out to drive on their own.
