Dan Noble, president and CEO, discusses the future of HKS and the architectural industry, sitting down with Ralph Hawkins. He says, “Moving forward we have a fantastic story to tell. We need to tell it in a robust, compelling way.” He asks, “Do you want to be a vendor or thought leader? If we relegate ourselves to just basic service agreements, we become a commodity. We need to work with our clients, providing our thoughts, concepts, ideas and knowledge. We are experts in the field. We know our clients’ business and we can improve their bottom line.”

Past president Ralph Hawkins and current president Dan Noble discuss leadership transition at HKS. Dan, a 32-year veteran of the design industry, is a widely recognized international leader in the practice of architecture; a sought-after designer, planner, educator and practitioner both nationally and internationally; and a thought leader on conceptual design, evidence-based design and healing environments. Dan Noble notes, “We are changing but not at the expense of our traditional strengths.”

Ralph named Dan his successor as president and CEO, effective January 1, 2014. Noble will serve in this role for HKS, Inc., one of the top six architectural/engineering firms. Hawkins will continue to serve the firm as chairman for the transition. According to Ralph, it took 12 years to plan a smooth transition into the fourth generational of leadership. He notes, "This is a phenomenal time for our firm."
