#367: Then and Now: An Integration Conversation
19/06/2019 Duration: 49minIt’s one of the immutable rules of Information Technology: everything changes all the time. Amid all that paradigm shifting and envelope pushing, does enterprise integration get a pass? Of course not! Conversations about Integration once involved terms like “service oriented architecture” and “enterprise service bus.” But times and the vocabulary have changed, and those conversations -- like the one you are about to hear -- now involve a new vocabulary: containers, serverless, REST, APIs. The people doing the talking in this program are experienced architects with plenty to say about changing views on enterprise integration. View the complete show notes.

Bringing their insight to the discussion is an international panel of experts who represent years of DBA experience, and some of the forces that are transforming that role. #362: Database Golden Rules: When (and Why) to Break Them
16/01/2019 Duration: 33minAmerican inventor Thomas Edison, once said, “Hell, there are no rules here. We're trying to accomplish something.” What we hope to accomplish with this episode of the Groundbreaker Podcast is an exploration of the idea that the evolution in today’s architectures makes it advantageous, perhaps even necessary, to challenge some long-established concepts that have achieved “golden rule” status as they apply to the use of databases. #356: Developer Evolution: What's rockin’ roles in IT?
15/08/2018 Duration: 41minThe good news is that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 24% growth in software developer jobs through 2026. That’s well above average. The outlook for database administrators certainly isn’t bleak, but with projected job growth of 11% to 2026, that’s less than half the growth projected for developers. Job growth for system administrators, at 6% through 2016, is considered average by the BLS. So while the news is positive all around, developers certainly have an advantage. But there is another story behind those numbers. Powerful forces are driving change in long-established IT roles. This podcast examines the trends and technologies behind this evolution, and looks at what roles may emerge in the future. View the complete show notes.

In this program you’ll meet four people who have organized and continue to manage local developer meet-ups. You’ll hear first-hand what they learned about what works and what doesn’t in finding venues, developing content, and creating an atmosphere that keeps developers coming back for more.
