When Danielle McLean was a high school hockey player, growing up in hockey-mad Boston, she fought a 7-game series against Hodgkin's lymphoma. Her favorite game is what helped pull her through. A few years later, she skated forward to embrace her truth and forge through her transition. Hockey was her canvas. A safe space. A place to belong. On April 20, she put words to emotions to CNN.com and gave her view and her story, with the backdrop of the continuing "debate" over trans people in sport, and what position they should play. Keith Frostad wasn't out publicly in the media around the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, but he was known to be gay in the elite swimming world. When he talked about all of this with Zachary Draves of Nuts & Bolts Sports, he shared publicly for the first time intimate details of being harassed repeatedly by male swimmers on Team USA and at the University of Texas. He also found strength in the support he received from some swimmers, including many on the women's teams. And his attempt to reach the 1996 Olympics gave him a heart-warming story of support that remains with him to this day. In January Danish trans woman volleyball player Nadia Jacobsen and cybersecurity specialist/podcast host Maia Kahlke Lorentzen were beamed up to the Trans Sporter Room to discuss sports, inclusion and fighting the transphobes as their homeland's sports confederation revamped there transgender inclusion policies.
