Tom Donahue focused on the killing of the 17 year old gorilla named Harambe at the Cincinnati Zoo in order to allegedly save a child who fell in its enclosure has sparked nationwide outrage. This gentle giant was protective and playful and exhibited no signs of hostility or aggression toward the child. This majestic creature was slaughtered unnecessarily, in my view, without weighing other intervening rescue measures. We the humans are to be the caretakers and guardians of these animals when they are in our custody. We are to be good stewards of God's wonderful creations. This was a fundamentally flawed and botched operation and a poorly designed habitat that placed at risk both visitors and the inhabiting gorillas. Animal activists have created online petitions and Facebook pages after a special zoo response team shot and killed him. Many are angry the endangered gorilla was put down.
