A community review report commissioned by police found that 70% of ‘unfounded’ sexual assault cases in Hamilton were improperly handled. The report concludes that 75.1% of unfounded cases were correctly classified, while 24.9% weren’t, in over 700 unfounded cases from 2010 to 2014. The report states that the sexual assault unit in Hamilton is made of seven overworked officers handling an average of 90 cases per year.
