Sermon Notes: Daniel 12; Hebrews 10; Mark 13:11f. Today we enter back into the lectionary readings in preparation for Advent, a four-week journey of retracing our steps with the people of God across time and space. In this season, we celebrate the breaking down of the walls of division between Jew and Gentile and affirm that we as gentiles have been graciously and wondrously GRAFTED into the vine, brought out of Egypt, to fill the land (Ps 80:8), the whole earth, with the transforming presence of the Kingdom of God, on earth as it is in heaven. The tone is apocalyptic, the same tone we hear in the first Sunday of Advent as we contemplate the end of the world as we know it. The term 'apocalyptic is taken from the Greek word, found in Revelation 1:1, that means a 'revelation, an 'unveiling or 'uncovering. It is currently used to classify a group of writings prominent in the biblical world between 200 b.c. and 100 a.d.
