Abuse is something that is very difficult to understand, especially if you haven’t experienced it. The effects vary from person to person, and everyone has a unique reaction. The emotions and confusion it can cause can be overwhelming, and even crippling. It’s definitely not an easy thing to move past. For many people, whether they intend to or not, they might attach a level of shame to victims and survivors of abuse. Some people even say things they would have done differently, as if they would never allow themselves to be abused. This kind of ignorance and shaming can make it really difficult for real survivors to heal and move on. The story we’re sharing today taught us that abuse doesn’t need to define you.
