Trained as a physician, Dr. Von Gunten let one of the first palliative care programs at Northwestern Hospital. He then led the San Diego Hospice and started and international program. He is editor of the Journal of Palliative Medicine. Dr. Ferris trained in Canada and developed home-based palliative care and then worked on the EPEC- O curriculum. He has participated in global development of palliative medicine.
