As Jesus hung on the cross, he uttered the words "My God, My God.  Why have you forsaken me?" Why did God have to turn away while His Son hung there on the cross bearing the sins of the entire world? It is because God is holy and will not tolerate sin and judges sin where it is found. He devised a way that justice would be satisfied and forgiveness made available.
