The plot, based on a true story, follows Pope Benedict XVI (played by Anthony Hopkins) attempting to change the mind of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who wants to resign as an archbishop. Later, Bergoglio in 2013 became elected Pope of the Catholic Church and named Pope Francis.
