I've heard two theories on why left luggage moved from its previously rather handy spot adjacent to platform one at York. One is that it was considered a security risk, the other is that somebody else was prepared to pay more rent. Either way the result is a station service located a five minute walk from the main concourse, alongside the inner ring road and over a bridge.
