Did you know the most frequent command in all of scripture is three simple words: “Be not afraid.” It shows up over 100 times in both the Old and New Testaments. God knew that the greatest obstacle we will face is fear. Fear of change, vulnerability, failure, suffering, you name it! However, what scripture also illustrates is that many of God’s greatest gifts exist on the other side of our greatest fears. Think about the Israelites having to wander in the desert to reach the Promised Land. Think about the disciples leaving everything behind to encounter Jesus’ Kingdom on earth. Thus, it is safe to say that we are risking something either way. There is a risk to doing something about your fear AND doing nothing. There is a risk to both facing our fears AND leaving them in control. Have you ever wondered what are we risking by not conquering the things we are afraid of?
