Earlier this year, Donald Trump fired off a tweet asking the SEC to look into moving from quarterly to semiannual reporting for public companies. He has said little on the subject since. Nevertheless, the idea has reignited a long-running debate, particularly because it comes as the number of public companies is declining, early stage companies are staying private for longer, and public firms are being taken private with ever-increasing levels of debt.
