Plan a strategy to take a break if necessary ( consider a restroom or lunch break). 2. Create a couple of detailed phrases and methods to get the negotiation back on track if it loses focus. 3. Think of at least two ways to prevent yourself from compromising in the heat of the moment. 4. Create a short list of open-ended questions designed specifically to slow things down and get the other side to clarify their position.
