You should expect the recruiter to be aggressive in asking for this number. One of the biggest rules of negotiation is, don’t get so attached to a deal that you can’t walk away. Don’t give away the minimum salary that you’ll accept in the initial phone screen. If you show desperation you are going to cave and the chances of you earning what you are worth will significantly decrease. Expect to go back and forth for a few rounds. Confidence is really important so don’t read these suggested scripts off a piece of paper. Practice your response us-ing vocabulary that you’re confident in for at least three rounds.
