A lot of people have paypal accounts and phones that are not iphone 5 or 6.  If Visa, MC, Amex were to issue a Universal Vendor Code [UVC] (like Universal Product Code [UPC]) with a small barcode which can be a sticker on pay terminals at retail outlets, then most people with even basic phones that have a camera can activate the app by taking a picture of the UVC barcode or entering a 9 digit UVC to pay a vendor.    Advantage: This will allow people with all kinds of mobile instruments the benefit of paying without fishing out their credit cards from their wallets.
