The Ferguson Effect is the idea that increased distrust of police following the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has led to an increased crime rate (or sometimes increased murder rate) in major U.S. cities. The mechanism usually suggested is that police have less vigorous enforcement in situations that might lead to backlash, though other mechanisms are suggested. What happens when a segment of society hijacks the efforts of sincere people working towards Police and Criminal Justice Reform? Why don’t we call out the people who create or incite incidents to provoke a police reaction for the purpose of wanting to sue the police and collect a check? This Saturday August 3 at 11 am (Eastern) 10 am (Central) for Behind the Blue Curtain. We’re going to discuss some of these events. What is the cost to the decent citizens trying to survive in crime riddle neighborhoods where the police are the only protection they have? There are good and bad offices and there are also good and bad citizens
