Western Tidewater has one of the highest rates of Diabetes, and deaths as a result of the disease, anywhere in Virginia. A new partnership between the Obici Healthcare Foundation and Eastern Virginia Medical School is bringing new treatment and care options to residents of Suffolk and surrounding cities with the opening of the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center of Western Tidewater. The weekly clinic will offer screenings, lifestyle intervention and a focus on areas commonly struck by serious complications of diabetes such as the kidneys, eyes and feet. We're joined today by the center's founders for a conversation about the disease and the vital services the new center will provide.
