Responding to the growing challenge of prescription opioid misuse, doctors across Virginia are working to develop common sense guidelines for prescribing opioids. In Virginia, statistics show more than 4,000 deaths have been reported in recent years due to fatal prescription opioid overdoses, and that a significant number of babies have been born after being exposed to such substances due to the mother's substance misuse while pregnant.
