Synopsis
After losing her mom to a terminal illness in high school, psychotherapist Susan Youngsteadt went on to lose her father to cancer not long after. Joining Chelsea 10 minutes in, Susan opens up about the things that go missing when your parents pass away—like, your sense of home and belonging, unconditional acceptance, as well as a living, breathing example to point to and say, “this is why I am the way I am.” She talks about what her patients sit and talk about most in her practice, why assuming positive intent works, what she did in the aftermath of grief—particularly, what she rushed to do—and how that either helped or hurt her, how she’s trimmed the hedges of her core circle and built a family of friends, what she does to feel close to her parents, and how hospice is a place where you find yourself rooting for death. All in all, this is a tender conversation about loving the heroes who raised us and growing through our parents even if they are no longer in the physical world.__To connect with Susan, visit h
