Muna Güvenç is an Assistant Professor at Brandeis University. Her research interests encompass social movements, minority politics, urbanism, and architecture in the Middle East and beyond. Prior to her academic career, she worked as an architect in Istanbul, Turkey. We spoke to Muna about how outlawed and legally-constrained pro-Kurdish parties in Turkey harnessed urban planning to resist government coercion, the creative loopholes the movement found to express their  Kurdish identity, and the many stories of repression and resistance that Muna uncovered in her research.
