The Catholic Church claims that extraordinary demonic activity can take six different forms which may warrant exorcism. Possession, where single or even multiple demons may take control of a person’s body without their knowledge or consent. A case where perhaps a person might flippantly ask spirits or the devil to aid them in some physical labor and that person may exhibit extraordinary strength. Obsession, where a person may become irrational at times and experience horrid nightmares which can lead to suicidal ideation. Oppression where certain misfortunes can afflict the victim such as a series of fires on a family farm. External pain caused demonic forces, excessive bleeding, or painful marks on the body. Infestation, affecting objects inside the home, these objects moving on their own or disappearing and reappearing. Finally, Subjection, where a person voluntarily submits to a demonic force.
