It's a Friday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) recaps the 4-2 loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite taking the early lead, the Panthers kept Pittsburgh in this by not converting on breakaways and second chances as Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry stood on his head in this one. Despite the Panthers leading the way 5-on-5(SOG: 31-30 FLA 5-on-5 and 50-47 CF% in favor of Florida), the Panthers Special teams were horrid. Panthers gave up a short handed goal and 2 PPG's and couldn't get anything going against the Penguins PK unit(4th best PK% n the NHL). Panthers also took costly penalties that lead to those two goals, including Verhaeghe taking one in the offensive zone and Aaron Ekblad with a puck over glass while trying to clear the zone. Despite no Matthew Tkachuk, Anton Lundell, and Radko Gudas, the Panthers had their chances on breakaways and on the doorstep.
