It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a society in possession of democracy must be in want of a common understanding of reality. European democracies are under stress. Economic hardship, a seemingly crumbling global order and technology racing far ahead of regulation are just some of the challenges that their citizens and leaders have to face. Solutions need to be the product of wide-ranging and honest conversations, but in order to have those, the conversing parties need to see the world in a fundamentally similar way.
