Synopsis

In Matthew 2, we read about some “wisemen” who traveled from the East to bring gifts along with their worship of this newborn King of the Jews. Scholars believe they came from Babylon (modern day Baghdad, Iraq) or perhaps Persia (modern day Iran). In either case, they would have traveled 900-1200 miles by camel and arrived when Jesus was anywhere from 6 months to 2 years old. You can imagine how excited they would have been to finally arrive at their destination. We read these words in Matthew 2:10-11, “When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” In hindsight, each of these wisemen would have said it was worth the trip to see this newborn King Jesus with their own eyes.
