He hurriedly sells his farmland and heads out to seek his treasure. After years of searching, dejected, despondent and alone, he ultimately kills drowns himself. The moral to the story is timeless, that our real fortunes lie within. That we already have a fortune within our selves as long as we are willing to take the time to refine our skills and character.
