Synopsis
Vidcast: https://youtu.be/FIaupv65Q1s Better adherence to the Mediterranean diet consisting of fish, monounsaturated fats including olive oil, beans, fruits, and vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of dementia. German neurologists draw this conclusion from their study of 512 subjects looking at clinical, radiologic and biochemical indicators of brain health as a function of their dietary choices. The 343 subjects at higher risk for Alzheimer’s had reduced cognitive function, more brain atrophy by MRI scanning, and elevated biomarkers for amyloid and tau degenerative proteins. Their diets reflected a greater and consistent deviation from the Mediterranean compared with the 169 healthy controls. Avoiding red meats, saturated fats, and abundant sugar keeps your brain healthy. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.05.04.21256593v1.full.pdf+html #dementia #alzheimers #Mediterranean #meat #fish #oliveoil
