Yeva Skalietska, author of 'You Don't Know what War Is: The Diary of a Young Girl from Ukraine."  Russia attacked Ukraine just days after Yeva celebrated her twelfth birthday. This book is based on a journal she began writing in the early weeks of the conflict.   Also:  Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Parker (2007) discusses her children's book "War is never a good idea" - and Crispin Glover talks about his series for young readers titled "Zeus the Mighty."

Steve Phillips-  author of "How we win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy and Ending White Supremacy for Good."  It is the contention of Phillips that America is still fighting the Civil War - or at least struggling to come to terms with some of the central issues which led to the conflict and still leave us painfully divided. 

Dr. Susan J. Noonan, author of 'Reconnecting after Isolation: Coping with Anxiety, Depression, Grief, PTSD and more."  The book explores some of the ongoing consequences of enduring extended and unwanted social isolation, such as many of us experienced (and some are still experiencing) during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

On what would have been his 100th birthday,   here is an excerpt from a 2007 Morning Show interview with choral music legend Weston Noble.  (The entire interview will be shared on this coming Saturday's podcast.) 

In the early 1990's, as the Soviet regime fell,  folks at the Children's Television Workshop believed it was the ideal time to launch a Russian 'Sesame Street.'  The person chosen to head up the project,  TV producer and filmmaker Natasha Lance Rogoff, has written a memoir about the myriad challenges she and her colleagues faced in trying to create the show.  Her book is "Muppets in Moscow: The Unexpected, Crazy True Story of Making Sesame Street in Moscow."  

Robert J. Young, author of "Vagabond Pilot: a Journey of Discovery and Renewal."  When Young experienced some very difficult personal and professional setbacks, he ended up undertaking a journey across America in his two-seater Two Niner Lima plane, reconnecting with old friends and finding some new ones along the way.  

From 2009 - Andrei Cherny, author of "The Candy Bombers:  The Untold Story of the Berlin Airlift and America's Finest Hour."  

This recording from the archives (from approximately eight years ago)  is a conversation with Bill Jankovich, a retired business administration at Carthage College, talking about his exploits as a senior athlete in track and field.  

As a Thanksgiving Weekend special, here is an example from Music-A Closer Look, a series I created, produced and hosted at WGTD shortly after I began work here in 1986.  This episode of the program is dedicated to one of the most acclaimed and beloved classical singers of the 20th century,  Leontyne Price.
