The Gettin' Outdoors Podcast, hosted by Big Daddy Lawler, originates from the Grampian Hills Outdoor Media Center located deep in the Alabama Black Belt. BDL has over 40 years experience promoting the Black Belt natural resource assets and enjoys sharing his vast experience with his listeners. His network of Field Correspondents is pretty impressive and the outdoor celebrities, Wildlife Biologist, WFF Officials, outfitters, anglers (Pros & amateurs), Tournament Directors, and outdoor professional contacts are extensive. BDL keeps up with all the outdoor local, State & national outdoor news and always sprinkles a little flavor on his interviews, stories and tall tales from his past outdoor experiences.

    When I get asked who is the best hunter/angler/outdoorsman I have ever met in my years of promoting the outdoors, my friend Joe Champion is always on the top of that list. Joe Champion worked at Portland for Hammermill for 50 years managing wildlife & timber. He guided and hunted with some of the top names in the hunting, sports  and entertainment industry. He talks about his tenure at Portland and why he thinks it is one of the best hunting destinations in the nation.     Alabama Special Opportunity Areas (SOAs) deer/dove hunt registration begins August 19th 2019. SOAs are Alabama public hunt properties that are smaller than WMAs and are formatted for limited quota (random draw) hunting to reduce pressure and increase not only the quality of the hunt but also helps area biologist better manage the resource. During the 2019/20 Alabama hunting season, six SOAs offer limited number of slots for hunters (and guest) who are drawn to deer, dove, waterfowl, small game & turkey hunt. BDL talks to Portland Landing & Cedar Creek SOA (Dallas County) Area Biologist Justin Gilchrist about dates, registration process, available hunts, and answers a lot of questions hunters are asking about the SOA hunts.
