We're back with a bi-weekly podcast! While we will be keeping the "why" part of the podcast, we'll be focussing on covering pop culture news, reviews, and what we're watching, reading, and playing now.  With a new host line-up and bringing in our writing community to guest consistently, we're excited to jump back into podcasting regularly with this official podcast from our team. 

Tahara is a queer, Jewish coming-of-age film from director Olivia Peace and writer Jess Zeidman. I saw myself profoundly in this movie, and after spilling hundreds of words and much of my heart into my review, I had the chance to speak with Zeidman about how the movie came to be, the people that went into making it, and how life as a queer, movie-loving Jew shaped the movie in the end.

This week, we're starting our new review podcast. On But Why Tho? Reviews, our critics get together to talk about what they're watching, what they think about it, and ultimately why YOU should hit play or hit skip. This week, we're talking about Heartstopper. The Netflix Original that is all about love, friendship, and most importantly, queer joy.

For the opening weekend of SXSW 2022, the University of Arizona brought Wonder House for attendees. Originally meant to debut in 2020, the event was two years in the making highlighted the wonder of The University from across disciplines and colleges. We got the chance to talk with Misha Harrison, executive director of experience in Marketing and Brand Management, and Chad Herzog, executive director of Arizona Arts Live. 

Have you ever wanted to step into a Jane Austen novel? Date in Regency England maybe? Well, the newest reality dating series is taking you there. We got the chance to sit down with two of the series' suitors Mr. Lewis Echavarria and Mr. Alex “Achilles” King to talk about their experience in winning the heart of the heroine Ms. Nicole Rémy. 

Alex Molodkin and his partner Tay Kuznetsova are the duo behind Weasel Token, an indie game developer based in Kyiv, Ukraine. They are currently making a game  Puzzles for Clef, a peaceful 2D puzzle adventure with a treasure hunt at its core. We spoke with Molodkin about his experience in Kyiv, what this means for Ukrainian game devs, and what people can do to help.

You play as Nobody, literally, with one unique magical power; You're able to transform into 20 different forms. From a rat to a mermaid, to even a Necromancer. All the powers of the forms are yours to command and customize. If you want a horse that can shoot a flurry of arrows while making light rain on your enemies? You can do that. If you want a Turtle that oozes slime while summoning zombies, you can do that too. With an in-depth quest system and many dungeons to explore, it's only Nobody against a horde of hideous monsters to stop the ever-looming threat. This week, we got to chat with Ian Campbell, Lead Game Designer of Drinkbox Studios, about how the team came up with the many different standout features of Nobody Saves the World.

But Why Tho? The Podcast had its fifth-anniversary last week. We also recorded our last episode. If you haven’t noticed, this feed has dropped a bit in activity since the world went full Dark Souls. Between that, the site doing well, and growth in our personal and professional lives, we found ourselves short on time. More than that, if we’re being totally honest, we found ourselves running short on episode ideas we were truly passionate about. But Why Tho has been a defining and exciting experience for all of us, but at this point, we feel like we have done what we set out to do, we have done our best with this idea we had, and want to step away rather than persevere into mediocrity. Words can not express how thankful we are to every single one of you who took the time to listen to us, who shared your love of pop culture with us, and especially those who became a part of our community. Dani Colman is the author of The Unfinished Corner, a middle-grade graphic novel illustrated by Rachel Petrovicz, colored by Whitney Cogar, lettered by Jim Campbell, and published by Vault Comics. Dani sat down with But Why Tho? to discuss the graphic novel, how it managed to squeeze 4000 years of Jewish storytelling tradition into one book, and just what makes Jewish storytelling so powerful. Atomika, originally published as individual issues between 2005-2011, is receiving a Kickstarter campaign to publish a complete omnibus. But Why Tho? sat down with Artist Sal Abbinanti to discuss what went into making this unique tale of old and new gods in Soviet-era Russia. The following interview is edited for brevity and clarity.
