Tonight Dr. Roger shares his top ten gifts you SHOULD NOT buy pet owners for their furry family members this holiday season.  Whether unsafe, annoying, or downright dangerous, be forewarned of these pet gift no-nos by tuning in. Cornphobia is a term veterinarians have coined to describe the fear of corn based ingredients in pet foods currently gripping a significant percentage of pet owners.  It is defined as follows (by Dr. Roger): The general fear among certain pet owners that the feeding of corn as an integral component to most pet foods is the root of most diseases in dogs and cats.  This assertion in most cases comes, not from a veterinarian, but from correspondence with groomers, breeders, and "homeopathic" gurus either in person or, most commonly, through internet forums.  This notion often takes precedence in the minds of affected pet owners to the opinion of licensed veterinarians, even in circumstances where disease specific nutrition is medically necessary to maintain the health and quality of life of a patient, and stated prescription diet is shunned or even dismissed because it contains corn. This episode Dr. Roger warns of the danger of self treating one's pets.  Inspired by a recent case in his clinic of a gravely ill dog whose illness was the direct result of her owner having self treated her with an over the counter medication, Dr. Roger endeavors in this episode to spread the word against this practice.  Hoping to prevent future tragedies like this, Dr. Roger warns of this and other common examples of self treating gone terribly bad.

Nutrition plays such an important role in the health of our pets, but far too many people give little thought to which brand or type of food they pick up at the grocery store.
