  • Why Do We Love Talking About Love? Nikki Novo on Intuition in Dating, Decisions, and Moving

    11/02/2022 Duration: 01h40min

This week I spoke to Cuban-American author Nikki Novo. We've known each other for years and she's been on the podcast before in one of our early episodes. Her many certifications and qualifications include certified hypnotherapist, Reiki healer, ThetaHealing practitioner, and many more. In this episode, we talk about Nikki's recent move from Miami to Asheville and what moving taught her about her identity. We get into intuition and how to use it in decision making, and how improving one area of life can fix other areas too. We explore why we all love talking about dating, love, and sex, and she brings her unique perspective on dating. Nikki recently had me on her own podcast, Soul Led, so if you want more where this came from, check out that episode here. Show notes:- Nikki is offering our listeners 10% off her Soul Seeker course - promo code LETITOUT- Find Nikki on the Web | Instagram | Podcast (my episode here)- Our Breakup Kits are 22% off this month with offer code: valentine- There are a couple of spots

  • Gentle Transition and the Gender Freedom Model with Non-Binary Gender and Sex Therapist Rae McDaniel

    04/02/2022 Duration: 01h37min

This week I spoke to Rae McDaniel, a non-binary gender and sex therapist who works with transgender/non-binary/questioning folks who feel lost while transitioning their gender identity. Rae is the founder of Practical Audacity, a gender and sex therapy practice in Chicago. They also provide training in trans-affirming care for medical and mental health professionals and they hold a Masters of Education in community counseling. Our conversation covers how learning to communicate directly in sex impacts clearer communication elsewhere as well, the importance of sex education and resources, naming fear rather than ignoring it, approaching gender from a place of curiosity (not only for trans and NB folks but for everyone), and much more. I loved talking to Rae and I’m excited for you to listen. Show notes:- Check out Practical Audacity | GenderFck- Our Breakup Kits are 22% off this month with offer code: valentine- There are a couple of spots open in my one-on-one creative consulting! • Actress Torrey DeVitto on Creative Gentleness, Managing Anxiety, Consent Education, Being of Service & More

    28/01/2022 Duration: 01h15min

This week I spoke to actress, advocate, philanthropist, and producer Torrey Joël DeVitto. She recently wrapped a six-season run on the NBC drama, “Chicago Med”, and we spoke on zoom from her farm in Michigan. A few years into her acting career, Torrey began volunteering in hospice and tells me how spending time with the dying shifted her perspective on life, death, and what's important. We also talk about navigating change within her industry, growing up around icons like Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel and how that influenced her creativity and work ethic.  Outside of her acting work, Torrey is an advocate for women's safety, health, and rights. She is on the board of directors of the youth-based organization SafeBae, so we speak about consent, safety, and education around sexual assault. I loved getting to know her in this conversation. Show Notes:- Follow @torreydevitto and @safebae- There are a couple of spots open in my one-on-one creative consulting! • Why Do Women Fear Bitcoin? Isabel Foxen Duke Teaches Me About the Economic Justice Properties of Decentralized Currency (85% of Bitcoin Traders Are Men)

    21/01/2022 Duration: 01h28min

Today’s guest has been a friend for nearly a decade and a guest several times. In a departure from the wide-ranging conversations we usually have here, today we focus on about a topic she's recently been exploring. There’s no better person at explaining concepts to me than my friend Isabel Foxen Duke. You might know her as as a leading expert in the body positivity and body neutrality space. Her work has been seminal in my eating disorder recovery, and she was my introduction into areas including fat politics, intuitive eating, and health at every size. When she told me she was learning about cryptocurrency, I was all ears despite finance and tech being intimidating subjects to me. According to Bloomberg, 85% of Bitcoin owners are men, so I wanted to have a woman on to talk about it. Isabel's patience in explaining esoteric concepts gave me a baseline understanding and sparked a curiosity to learn more. We used my beginner's mind to record a non-intimidating introductory discussion, specifically about the eco

  • Richness in Ruts & Paradox of Choice with Madeleine Dore, Author of "I Didn't Do The Thing Today"

    14/01/2022 Duration: 01h34min

Today’s guest is Madeleine Dore, a Melbourne-based writer and interviewer exploring how we can broaden the definition of a day well spent. For the past five years, Madeleine has been asking people about how they navigate their day on her popular site Extraordinary Routines and podcast Routines & Ruts. Most recently, she’s written a book called I Didn’t Do The Thing Today, out this week. I flew through an early copy and bring up some of my favorite insights from the book in this conversation. We also talk about finding richness in ruts, the paradox of choice and “infinite browsing mode", leaving space for surprise in our days, two kinds of perfectionism, the difference between standards and expectations, cringing at old work, and more. I loved speaking with her and I’m excited to hear your thoughts on finding richness in routines. Show Notes:- There are currently two spots open in my one-on-one creative consulting! • Perfection Means Dead: Actor Joshua Jackson on Young Fame, Nostalgia, Worthiness, Fatherhood, & Lingering in Uncomfortable Places

    07/01/2022 Duration: 01h22min

You may know today's guest actor, Joshua Jackson, from Dawson's Creek or The Mighty Ducks, or from his later shows, including Fringe, The Affair, Little Fires Everywhere, and most recently, Dr. Death, which earned him a People’s Choice award nomination. In this conversation (recorded over Zoom in the midst of the holidays), he  candidly shares lessons on navigating young fame, love and feeling worthy of it, what he’s learning as a new parent,  and how the vulnerable messy moments are where we grow. We talk about what his Broadway debut role in Children of a Lesser God taught him about listening and connection and how that has influenced his anti-racism work. He also tells me about his new production company, Liquid Media Group, which aims to create an easier path for independent filmmakers to share their content while allowing them ownership. He has enormous depth in his life experiences and I loved talking to him even more than I expected.Show Notes:- Find Joshua on Instagram | Twitter- I'm @katiedalebout  -

  • Becoming Sturdy & Expansive with Jules Bakshi, Founder & CEO of GOOD MOVE

    31/12/2021 Duration: 01h05min

Back on the podcast this week is Jules Bakshi, a professional dancer, choreographer, and founder and CEO of GOOD MOVE, a dance and mindful fitness studio for all genders, races, and sizes located in Brooklyn. Jules was in LA, so we caught up for hours at my kitchen table and reflected on the growth, change, and lessons she’s learned this year. It’s a fitting last episode of 2021 because Jules' first conversation, recorded at her kitchen table, was the last episode I recorded in Brooklyn on New Years' Eve 2019, the day before I left. In this new episode, Jules talks about being led by what is working rather than what is not, non-attachment, softening to become both more sturdy and more expansive, and what she's excited about for this coming year. Show notes:- Check out GOOD MOVE on the Web | Instagram- All of the Let It Out Kits, including Resolutions Reframe, are 22% off with the code "twentytwo"- Subscribe to our newsletter to get show notes sent straight to your inbox- Follow @letitouttt on Instagram- Photo

  • Brightness Crumb with Grace Park & Jesse Dalton of The Deer

    03/12/2021 Duration: 01h27min

This week I spoke with Grace Park and Jesse Dalton, two members of the Austin-based band The Deer. If you listened to my recent episode with Buck Meek (of Big Thief), he recommended his fellow Texan musicians The Deer to be featured on the podcast, and I'm so glad he did. Their songs are spacious, with airy vocals and gentle percussion, and it’s a sound that compels comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, Neko Case or Mazzy Star. In this conversation, Jesse and Grace tell me about the beginning of the band, being back on the road after quarantine, their new album, and their process. We talk about trial and error, acceptance, friendship, grief, and much more. Show notes:- Check out The Deer on the Web | Bandcamp | Instagram- All of our Kits, including Katie's holiday workshops, are 22% off with the code "cosmic"- Check out Katie's one-on-one Creative Clinic- You can book a free consultation with Katie here, and if you don't see a time that works for you please email her at katie@letitouttt.com- Subscribe to our newslett

    24/11/2021 Duration: 01h07s

This one isn’t from that deep into the archive,  it was one of my favorites of the year. You’ll hear more about it in the original intro but we split it into two parts and you’re about to hear part one of my two part conversation with chef and writer Julia Turshen. I thought would be timely for this week which is the start of the holiday season because. It’s a week where a lot of us will be gathering and there’s a lot of talk about food and eating and this episode gets into that. Julia has coauthored numerous cookbooks and has written for TheNew York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Saveur, and more.  The New York Times has described her “at the forefront of the new generation of authentic, approachable authors.” Julia not only loves cooking and writing about food, she also loves talking about it and hosts her own podcast, Keep Calm and Cook On. She’s genuine, talented, and kind. I loved this conversation with her that spanned a wide range of topics, in

    12/11/2021 Duration: 01h19min

This week I spoke with astrologer and cosmic consultant Madi Murphy, who combines her spiritual teachings with practical, actionable steps--and so much humor. This is Madi’s second time on the show. We first connected in 2017, when she owned a coffee shop in Brooklyn, and I happened to be interviewed by a reporter doing a story on her shop. Eventually I met Madi and we ended up doing the first ever live podcast recording in her space.Since then she’s made a major career and life pivot and, in this season finale episode, we unpack all she’s learned in a light, fun conversation. Raised on singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, she brings a jazzy nonchalance to her delivery while drawing big emotion from the subtlest vocal movement. Dana's music was featured in the Oscar-winning film Whiplash and she has collaborated with artists like Freddie Gibbs, Boogie, and Rejjie Snow.
