096 The Simpsons Movie - I Was Beat in Tic-Tac-Toe by a Chicken
05/06/2015 Duration: 01h35minIt's been a longtime coming: the Rotoscopers get together to talk about the 2007 hit The Simpsons Movie. Highlights We're so close to hitting our first milestone on our Patreon! Nerdy Couch Discussion: The Simpsons the phenomenon. What is the future for The Simpsons? A little history about the show and our history with The Simpsons. Main Discussion: The Simpsons Movie (2007) Initial thoughts about the seeing the film. Love the intro, Green Day cover of the theme song, and Itchy & Scratchy episode. They introduce a lot of familiar elements from the beginning, making it feel like just another episode. Spider Pig, one of the most memorable parts of the film. When the jokes/film get too current, is when it starts to date itself and the film goes downhill. Quality animation in this film. Some things don't work like the 3D mob. Listener Twitter Question: What is your favorite quote from The Simpsons Movie? We rate it! Full Show Notes: http://rotoscopers.com/95 Highlights Nerdy Couch Discussion: Environmentalism in animated films. Why so many animated films about environmentalist/conservation messages? Main Discussion: FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) This movie isn't quite bad! It's actually all right! A little history, box office results and more fun facts! Gotta love the bodacious babe, the red-dress fairy herself Crysta! Gotta love the red-headed mullet guy fairy. Music is neither good nor memorable. Batty is a boring character. Not really even the amazing Robin Williams can save him. His dated 90s rap is horrible. Hexxus is a great villain. Definitely wins the award for creepiest villain. Talk about GREAT animation! Main Discussion: The Brave Little Toaster (1987) A little production history and John Lasseter's actual involvement in production. Let the Toy Story comparisons begin! We had a hard time relating to...appliances. Talking about the voice actors: Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman. Where did all these songs come from? They didn't quite work. The animal scene is just bizarre. Same with Toaster's dream. Yikes! Mason favorite movie trope: the characters searching for each other and JUST miss each other. The new electronics are fancy...but mean! The dump. Gotta love the 80s/90s making trash evil. Talk about the score by Paul Smith and the Pinocchio Legacy Collection. Stromboli is an excellent example of squash and stretch. We meet Honest John and Gideon again. Aw, Pleasure Island. The place of all vices: beer, smoking...and pool! Monstro is one of the main things Mason wants to see in the the live-action remake. Love love love the water effects during this scene. One of the highlights of this film is the sense of realism. Overview of bunny religion. Beautiful watercolor backgrounds juxtaposed with bad animation. This film can be broken down by the three different societies they encounter. Oops...we forgot the females. Chelsea breaks down the soundtrack. The last 10 minutes are insanely bloody and violent. Highlights Main Discussion: Kung Fu Panda 2 General info, box office results, and first thoughts and recollections. Morgan thought the intro was going to be a lot more epic. The score by Hans Zimmer and John Powell really does a great job of drawing you in. It's very lyrical and dictates what is happening on screen. Big plot problem: Po's "Who am I? Where did I come from?" dilemma comes out of no where. Needed more build up. Lord Shen is an amazing villain. This is one of the most emotional DreamWorks films. Did Shen survive? In frame by frame, you see him crushed by his canon. So that's where all the pandas went! Voicemail: Katie, Sarah Listen Twitter question: What is your favorite scene or quote from Kung Fu Panda 3?
