Hundreds of infants and toddlers as young as 2 years old have been allegedly apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol while crossing the border illegally without a parent or guardian in the past year according to recent reports. The report states that roughly 52,000 unaccompanied minors have been apprehended since October 2013. “Apprehending infants and children can be difficult for Border Patrol agents; our facilities are not designed with people that young in mind,” said Shawn Moran, a spokesperson for the National Border Patrol Council. House Republicans rejected a Senate-passed comprehensive immigration reform package last year that would have provided a path to citizenship for an estimated 8 million of the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.
