  • Legends Podcast #677; Madame Web (2024)

    29/05/2024 Duration: 01h04min

So Spider-less It was held an extra week... Beef is sorry.... From the studio that brought us Venom and Morbius comes the latest attempt by Sony to make a Spider-Man movie without Spider-Man in it! When Cassandra Webb’s mother is bitten by a magic spider, she grows up with the power to see the future. But even she couldn’t predict that this movie would be crowned the worst of the year. Starring Dakota Johnson, with Sydney Sweeney, Isabella Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, and Adam Scott, the S. J. Clarkson film wove a string of bad reviews into a spindly $100 million at the box office. One reviewer called it “the death of the superhero genre, the burning of the superhero genre to the ground and then the returning in the middle of the night to piss on the superhero genre’s ashes.” Gee, I wonder how he really felt! But since hitting Netflix, it's been the Number One movie, so how bad can it be? Join us as we get caught up with Madame Web!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on

  • Legends Podcast #678; Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021)

    29/05/2024 Duration: 53min

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On burst onto the internet stage in 2010 with a three minute YouTube video. In three short videos, the world fell in love with the tiny, soft-spoken, introspective mollusc as he showed us his everyday life in a human-sized home. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and voiced by actress Jenny Slate, Marcel’s adventures jumped to the big screen in 2021 with a feature length film. While audiences didn't exactly “shell”out the big bucks to see it, the movie was critically adored, earning a near-perfect 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now we're renting an AirBnB to see what all the fuss is about!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. • Legends Podcast #676; Bottoms (2023)

    15/05/2024 Duration: 01h03min

Putting a new spin on the traditional coming-of-age teen movie, director Emma Seligman mashes up The Breakfast Club with Fight Club for an action-packed, surreal romp through high school. Starring Rachel Sennot and Ayo Edebiri as two lesbians who start a “self-defense” club to get girls, this 2023 film explores the life of the “untalented gays” at Rockbridge Falls High School as they deal with football players, crushes, and the murderous Huntington Golden Ferrets. The film didn't exactly kick butt at the box office, but it was a critical success, with one reviewer calling it the “horniest, bloodiest high school movie of the 21st century.” Now we're taking it from the top with Bottoms!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. • Legends Podcast #675; Stargate (1994)

    08/05/2024 Duration: 01h03min

Thirty years ago, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich launched a franchise with this blockbuster movie starring Kurt Russell and James Spader - though maybe not in the way they expected. When an Egyptologist decodes the symbols on an ancient artifact, the U.S. military opens a portal through the stars leading to another galaxy. On the distant world, they must lead a rebellion against the sun god Ra to find a way back home. This sci-fi epic from the Independence Day duo was mostly panned when it came out, and despite decent earning at the box office, it wasn’t a big enough hit for MGM to warrant a direct sequel. However, a few years later, a TV continuation appeared on Showtime, where it ran for four seasons before moving to the Sci-Fi Channel. In all, Stargate: SG-1 ran for ten seasons, with multiple spinoff series and TV movies produced. Now, we’re stepping across the threshold of the universe with Stargate!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Plea

    24/04/2024 Duration: 01h05min

We're heading back to Rebel Moon for Part 2! After Part One - A Child of Fire lit up Netflix screens in December of last year, we had to wait four months for the second half of Zack Snyder’s Seven Samurai in Space. • Legends Podcast #671; Road House (1989)

    18/04/2024 Duration: 01h05min

*** Sorry for this being released again, and out of order. The original got deleted somehow... sorry again*** Patrick Swayze’s career hit its peak in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, cementing his status as a Hollywood hearthrob. In the span of five years from 1987 to 1991, he starred in megahits Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, and this 1989 movie about a bouncer hired to clean up a rowdy honkytonk. Co-starring Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara and Kevin Tighe, the film was an instant Eighties classic despite not lighting up the box office and earning mostly-negative reviews at time of release. Roger Ebert wrote, “This is not a good movie. But viewed in the right frame of mind, it is not a boring one, either.” While it only grossed about $60 million at the box office, estimates on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray sales and cable/streaming licenses total north of $200 million. The film also earned a remake this year - which we’ll be talking about next week! We’re pulling up to the bar - and breaking it - with Road Hou

  • Legends Podcast #672; Road House (2024)

    17/04/2024 Duration: 01h06min

We're on the road (house) again with the remake! Swapping the Kansas City suburbs for the Florida Keys, this Amazon MGM release - exclusively on the Prime Video streaming platform - trades Patrick Swayze for Jake Gyllenhaal as the man named Dalton who gets hired to clean up a rowdy bar. Produced once again by Joel Silver, this time around The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is behind the camera, while Daniela Melchoir, Jessica Williams, Billy Magnussen, and Conor McGregor round out the cast. Amazon claims the remake has been seen by over 50 million worldwide viewers on the service over its first two weekends, making it the studio's “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.” But is this Road House a tired retread or does it hold the keys to a new franchise?   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. • Legends Podcast #670; Hudson Hawk (1991)

    02/04/2024 Duration: 58min

Bruce Willis was at the height of his career in the early ‘90s, with Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder securing his spot in the action movie pantheon. However, a 1991 release threatened to derail this trajectory. The flop in question concerns a recently-paroled cat burglar who is swept up in an international conspiracy to steal the pieces of a gold-producing alchemy machine invented by Leonardo Da Vinci, a plot involving the mob, the CIA, two psychotic yuppies, and the Vatican! And Willis himself helped come up with the story! The film, chock full of absurdist humor, was marketed as an action flick on Willis’s Die Hard reputation, but audiences - and critics - weren’t having it. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said, “A movie this unspeakably awful can make an audience a little crazy. You want to throw things, yell at the actors, beg them to stop.” Despite earning a Razzie for Worst Film of the Year, the caper has attained something of a cult status based on frequent cable re-airings. Now we’re feeling the wi

  • Legends Podcast #669; Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)

    26/03/2024 Duration: 58min

This 2022 film, from the directing duo known as Daniels - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - tells the story of a middle-age laundromat owner who taps into the multiverse in order to repair her relationships with her family. The mind-mending flick was Everywhere during awards season last year, taking home two Golden Globes, four Critics Choice awards, and a BAFTA. The film won almost Everything it was nominated for at the Oscars with seven wins, including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. And the pic swept the four major guild awards - DGA, PGA, SAG, and WGA - All at Once. It also seemed like Everyone went to see it, with the indie film from A24 bringing in $144 million at the box office to become their highest-grossing release ever. • Legends Podcast #668; Chinatown (1974)

    20/03/2024 Duration: 59min

In 1974, Roman Polanski (now a fugitive, convicted sex criminal) directed a script from Robert Towne for a film produced by Robert Evans. Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles in the 1930s, this neo-noir mystery explores wealth, power, and water in a city that is always thirsty for more of all three. Starring Jack Nicholson as private detective J.J. “Jake” Gittes, the film also features Faye Dunaway, John Huston, and Diane Ladd. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, it won Best Screenplay and is widely considered one of the best films ever made, with the The Guardian naming it Number One in 2010. Now, fifty years since its release - and over a decade since Lobster talked about it on his first-ever movie podcast - we realize we just can’t forget about Chinatown.   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. • Legends Podcast #667; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)

    13/03/2024 Duration: 01h12min

Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s self-published comic, the absurdly-titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hit shelves 40 years ago. Since then, it's been a Saturday morning cartoon (or three), two live-action movie franchises, a toy aisle staple, and a dubious rock-n-roll stage show. The latest animated iteration, from Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, and Mitchells vs. The Machines director Jeff Rowe, updates the Heroes in a Halfshell for Gen Z, with actual teenagers voicing the turtles! The film also includes an all-star cast, with Ayo Edebiri, Ice Cube, Jackie Chan, and introducing Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko. The film was a hit, with a TV show and sequel film on the way. But does the film live up to the franchise’s high points, or is it a case of turt-little, turt-late? • Legends Podcast #666; The Omen (1976)

    06/03/2024 Duration: 01h02min

Legends has reached that fateful number - Six Hundred Sixty-Six - and we’re celebrating with an appropriately devilish movie. After his wife delivers a stillborn baby, an American diplomat adopts an orphan. Then, a series of mysterious circumstances lead him to suspect the boy may be the Antichrist. Starting Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Billie Whitelaw, and Harvey Stephens as Damien, directed by Richard Donner, the 1976 film was a box office hit that spawned multiple sequels and a TV series. More recently, a direct remake of the first film was released in 2006 and a TV series, Damien, aired in 2016. We’re going back to the film that started it all, as it was foretold. But does The Omen give the Devil his due, or has it gone to the dogs?   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. • Legends Podcast #665; Four Falls of Buffalo (2015)

    28/02/2024 Duration: 46min

Football season may be over, but we’re going into overtime with an ESPN documentary from the 30 for 30 series. From 1990 to 1993, the Buffalo Bills ascended to the heights of NFL greatness, winning four consecutive AFC Championships. With a locker room filled with big personalities, including future Hall of Famers Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, and Andre Reed, led by legendary coach Marv Levy, the Bills are not remembered for punching their ticket to the Big Game four years in a row. No, they’re remembered for losing. All. Four. Narrated by actor and Bills fan Willaim Fichtner, the doc ties into Lobster and Beef’s childhood memories and Rum Daddy’s early editing career. But thirty years after the Buffalo Bills’ last trip to the Super Bowl, is Four Falls of Buffalo worth falling for or does it fumble at the one-yard line?   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. 14/02/2024 Duration: 50min

Happy Valentimes! Legends Podcast is getting in the mood with a classic rom-com from 2009. Starring Sandra Bullock (2009’s The Blind Side) and Ryan Reynolds (2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as a publishing exec and her assistant who try to pull off a Green Card marriage, the film was a hit that grossed over $300 million at the box office. • Legends Podcast #660; Barbie (2023)

    24/01/2024 Duration: 01h13min

The cinematic cultural phenomenon known only as Barbenheimer roller-bladed into theaters last summer with the force of an atomic explosion. The double-feature from those ingenues of cinema verite, Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan, promised to be the box office event of the summer, along with all the meme culture meets pop culture cachet that came with it. While both films performed well, the former won the battle, with the long-gestating film based on Mattel’s bestselling doll bringing in over a billion dollars at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023. With Margot Robbie in the title role leading an all-star cast, including Ryan Gosling as Ken, the pink-drenched flick’s production department caused a national paint shortage of its signature hue. Now we’re just three hosts living in a Barbie world, having an existential crisis, thinking about dying and looking fabulous while doing it!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''.
